Tie One On For Safety

This month, November, marks the 30th anniversary of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD)’s longest running public awareness campaign. Entitled “Tie One On For Safety”, the campaign utilizes bright red ribbons as a visible reminder to us all travel safely during this holiday season.

Not surprisingly, the days between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day are some of the most dangerous days to be on the country’s roadways. We all like to “get into the spirit” of the holidays, and for many people that includes overdoing it a little (or a lot!) with alcoholic beverages.

Whether or not you drink, or how much you drink, is your personal choice. But please choose to be safe about it – choose a non-drinking “designated driver” BEFORE you go to the celebration, and stick to your decision. If you are hosting the party, be sure to offer a selection of non-alcoholic beverages, and be ready to provide or arrange safe transportation for guests who have been drinking.

Make this holiday season the safest – and happiest – ever!
